Shady Hill, 30 Jan. 1894.

Dear Miss Whitney,-

I thank you for sending me the cheque from Mr. Jay; the delay in its reaching me was a matter of absolutely no consequence. I have written to him to thank him for it.

As I have told you

I will gladly take part in a Forest Protection League. My love for the trees is an old and faithful love; it will last as long as I live. But I have neither time nor strength to start a movement such as is needed. I will, if I see Mr. Sargent, urge him to undertake it.

Believe me

Faithfully Yours

C.E. Norton.

Miss Anne Whitney.

Letter from Charles Eliot Norton, to Anne Whitney, Boston, Massachusetts, 1894 January 30
