Dear Miss Whitney: -

The Board of Government met yesterday for the first time since the news of Miss Manning's death reached the Union.

The Members of the Board, many of whom have been associated

for years with Miss Manning on the Board and in the Ethics Committee, asked me to express to you their deep sympathy and their appreciation of the rare privilege it has been to know and to work with Miss Manning.

For myself, may I

say, dear Miss Whitney, that although I have met Miss Manning but seldom and only during these last few years, the radiant quality of her rare character has so impressed me that grief in having lost her tangible presence is swallowed up in the sense of victory of her unconquerable spirit and gratitude that she has lived. So that, to mourn seems almost a disloyalty to the triumph of her life.

[letterhead: WOMEN'S EDUCATIONAL AND INDUSTRIAL UNION, 264 BOYLSTON STREET, BOSTON, MASS.]

Yours with belief in the reality--of the spirit that makes you one with her, untouched by any accident of of death,

Henrietta T. Goodrich. June Sixth.

Letter from Henrietta Goodrich, Boston, Massachusetts, to Anne Whitney, Plymouth, Massachusetts, 1906 June 6
