Abstract

Of the four classics in Chinese literature, The Story of the Stone (Shitou Ji), better known as Dream of the Red Chamber (Hongloumeng), is arguably one of the most timeless masterpieces. This work acts as a deconstruction of the novel's twelve elusive beauties and analyzes their resurrection in later sequels in an attempt to look closely at the degree to which they are altered and the implication behind these changes.
