My dear Grandad:

It is kind
of you and Mrs. Mills to
think of me at the time
when sympathy is most
need[sic] - I thank you
very much.

With Father's death,
the family does not seem
real at all - We all
miss him greatly: he
was such a companionable [page break]
father.

Mother has been very
nervous since his death,
and so she is at present
staying in another one
of our houses. We
go over to see her every
day, and sometimes
she comes over here.
She does not wish to
leave the city: and so
that is the next best
thing for her we think.
She has an American
friend staying with her - [page break]
I am looking after the
house, and with such
hot weather, it is
hard to keep good
servants. I suppose
you are being baked
also in N.Y. are you
not?

With love
Granddaughter
